Silplate is a unique product developed to support high temperature while providing high compression strength and maintaining low thermal conductivity. Silplate is designed to keep its physical properties even at maximum working temperature limits. These features stabilize the entire lining system, reducing the joint attack in the working lining and saving energy.
Silplate present excellent chemical stability, resisting the attack of most acids and corrosive agents (except hydrofluoride, phosphoric, hydrochloride and sulphuric acids and concentrated alkalis). Made with high-purity materials, the product has a very low Fe2O3 content. Silplate board was specially developed as a backup lining for molten-metal transportation.
Products in the Silplate family include Silplate Insulating Boards, and Silplate Mass 1500.
Silplate® boards were specially developed by Unifrax for backup applications that require a very high-strength refractory insulating material. Common applications are for backup in ladles or tundishes that are used in molten metal transportation. Using Silplate boards for backup applications can significantly reduce steel shell cold face temperatures. Because of Silplate’s high use temperature limit, in many cases a thinner refractory cross section may be used, which results in increased ladle capacity. All of the boards in the Silplate product line are inorganic, resulting in optimal fired strength. Also, Silplate product formulations may be manufactured in a variety of custom shapes for specific applications. And Silplate can be used as a hot face lining material for high air velocity and/or vibration applications.

Silplate® Mass 1500 is a hot face coating material for use over ceramic fiber modules, castables and refractory bricks. It is manufactured from the combination of high temperature fibrous materials and sintered high-purity, refractory oxides. Silplate Mass 1500 is a compound ready for application at temperatures up to 1500°C (2732°F). It may be applied on ceramic fiber insulation to form a surface that is highly resistant to abrasion and flame impingement. It has virtually no shrinkage, minimizing the appearance of cracks even when operating up to its temperature limit. When exposed to temperatures above 870°C (1600°F), Silplate Mass 1500 forms a ceramic bond providing further strength and integrity.
